These books are aimed at a teenage audience but will be useful for anyone wanting to improve their reading skills in Latvian.
The publication not only provides access to quality original literature for young people with literacy and reading comprehension difficulties but also makes a significant contribution to promoting inclusive culture and literature in Latvia, the publishers said.
The book includes stories by five authors – Lingita Lina Bopulu, Baiba Baikovska, Gunita Skroderēna, Ulrika Ūpe, and Linda Skranda.
The book “Stories in Easy Language” (Stāsti vieglajā valodā) has been compiled with the interests and themes of the teenage audience in mind, related to their personal development and self-expression, focusing on the search for self and a sense of belonging, individuality, acceptance, and the courage to be different. The stories also address issues of societal concern, such as migration and human rights. All the works are adapted to the principles of easy Latvian, while maintaining literary quality and emotional depth.
The second book “Stories in Easy Language” has been written in collaboration with Velga Polinska, a research assistant at the Institute of Latvian Language at the University of Latvia and editor of easy Latvian.
The book presentation event will take place on January 16 at 16:00 at “Valters un Rapa”, Aspazijas Boulevard 24, Rīga.
