Was chatting to a colleague about this earlier today. Our jaded and cynical opinion was that this crisis will used to squeeze residents of fracking areas until the pips squeak and they drop opposition or enough of the UK population demand that it is resumed.
God, the government already pumped loads of time and energy into this idiotic idea and it failed, it will fail again and be a waste of resources.
Just as the far right wing fuckwits of the Tory part have been pushing for recently.
Net Zero Scrutiny Group (NZSG) and Global Warming Policy Foundation (GWPF) which are a bunch of right wing fuckwits, but with deep pockets / loud mouths / lots of pressure

Fracked energy is expensive energy. US fracking basically never made any money.
It’s also highly polluting, even if you ignore the water table issues, and the earthquakes, the methane leaks from fracking in the US are *insane*.

Putting aside for one moment the insane damage it does to the environment, I thought it had already been determined that fracking financially doesn’t work.
Initial studies and surveys in 2013 estimated our potential reserves to be up to 65 trillion cubic meters of gas. With the latest studies and surveys that estimate is now closer to about 4 trillion cubic meters of which only a fraction is actually recoverable.
Someone’s mates are going to get a lot of money to set up some initial sites that will then be bought by the government once local protesters have successfully defeated the applications on environmental grounds.
Fuck me, just when you think this cunt government has hit the bottom, they smash through and find a new depth of arseholery.
For some reason, I doubt they’ll lead with example and frack their own gardens before anyone else’s.
I thought this might start coming up more ever since one of the MPs asked about it during the first parliament session involving Boris Johnson and Russian related sanctions…
How long does it take for this to be producing energy? Does this solve anything short term or what is the reasoning here?
