Pubs. That’s the role they’ve always performed in British society and they continue to do so for me.
Gigs and clubs. I’m in a subculture so I know a lot of the perks so go to them as well, so it’s kind of like a community. I think of London as having a bunch of cultural villages, in a sense. Even though it’s a huge city, it’s possible to get to know basically everyone within a small part of it.
Gym, coffee shop, pub, park
Skatepark. Almost everyone I’ve made friends with since moving to London I know through skateboarding
used to be record shops when DJing with vinyl was a thing – wish someone would open a digital record shop
PlayStation
Bad Moon Cafe. Play games, eat pizza, have a beer. Meet with friends or make new ones via various meetups.
The poker table.
Especially a £5 or £10 pub game – it’s a great way to see people I already know at a regular game or meet strangers by playing in a new pub.
I’m a traditionalist. The pub.
Local clubs are great. I found my local squash club very welcoming. I am also a member of a members club in central. And I found volunteering a fantastic way to meet people.
ice rink
Reddit.
Coffee shops, pubs, book stores and Arsenal.
Local climbing gym. Great community of people, some I’ve come to call friends.
Serpentine road at Hyde Park all sorts of activities
Mine is wherever my favourite band are playing. I follow them all over, and often queue up to get to the front, so I make loads of friends that way. 10 years ago, I met somebody that became my fiancée in November last year!

Pubs! the greatest invention
Forests, woods, preferably near water
Any given carpark after dark for a spot of good old fashioned dogging
The park and the Thames path.
Reddit. Film fan sites and ebay. No in person stuff
Is this where Third Space gym got its name from?
The pub.
I know enough people in our borough that a walk up the market often leads to bumping into people.
I’m not a coffee/tea drinker so caffs don’t have the same appeal.
a DnD campaign, probably
Green Dragons paragliding club… awesome folks.
Hyde Park, specifically The Beach, you didn’t know who would be down there but it didn’t matter
gay sauna.
My local park where everyone takes their dogs. The drama between the groups with little dogs and groups with big dogs is better than tv
The gym, salsa and badminton! Sometimes some events from The Balancers. I’m also part of a couple of private members clubs but no longer attend their events.
Epping Forest – almost 6000 acres of ancient forest.
(Plug for r/EppingForest )
My nearest corner shops. My favourite plant shops. Kew Gardens. And like many, my favourite pubs and bars.
There’s a Black Sheep Coffee near me that closes at 8pm in a land where nearly all of them close at 4pm and it’s absolutely thriving right up until closing.
I often struggle to find a seat which tbh is a nicer problem to have, as this was unthinkable 10 years ago and historically why coffee shops never bothered opening late in UK unlike many place abroad.
I don’t drink alcohol and whilst I could go to a pub for coffee, I know it be met with annoyed looks from both sides of the bar, so I don’t bother with them.
