Almost zero dollars of that debt are due to social security and Medicare. About half of it is from military expenditures.
We have a spending problem. No amount of taxing billionaires will solve it. Simple as that.
What’s a fair share?
Tell me you don’t understand debt without telling me.
Please delete this post it’s embarrassing and makes no sense.
Government has become too big in size and scope. Simple as that.
Smh, that’s literally just all the dollars the US government has created minus all the dollars it has taxed away since 1794ish
Is this sub becoming a left wing echo chamber now?
Huh having debt is not a bad thing..there are countries that owe trillions to us. Dude if you want to just spew bullshit don’t do it on r/economy bruh.
Let me share a secret, *we don’t have $36t in debt*.
If I “lend” myself $10 dollars I’m not $10 dollars in debt. That’s now how money works.
We have about $7 trillion in debt, which is what we owe overseas.
And we leverage that to artificially prop up the dollar and get cheap imports worth *trillions.*
If we wanted to pay off that debt we could just tax the ultra rich and call it a day.
But we don’t, because doing so would collapse the dollar.
As for what we owe ourselves, that’s not debt, it’s money supply. Not the best way to increase money supply, but America is not known for doing the “best”.
Like that bastard Churchill said, “You can always count on America to do the right thing after trying everything else”.
Social security and Medicare aren’t even included in the $36 trillion
I’m sorta ambivalent, if Northrup grumman pays an extra 20 billion in taxes they’re just gonna charge government 30billion extra for a shitty jet that we’ll give away to Israel or some random country in 5 years. We should just cut military budget or give a shit about failed spending audits.
Wait till you find out who the debt is owed to lmfao
Actually it’s not that at all. The government just refuses to stay within their budget. You’re welcome for the actual facts!
Edit: spelling mistake.
The Federal Reserve and wasteful government borrowing/spending are the real issues.
