To be fair, he is just an idiot repeating (and bungling the facts of the point) a salient point he likely heard someone else make. The U.S. has conducted an extremely aggressive fire supression campaign for nearly a century now. Putting out every forest fire before it has a chance to do it’s job.
And let’s be clear – fire does have a job in evergreen forests. It’s an important part of the life cycle that removes deadful, clears nutrient suckers, and restores nitrogen to the forest floor. Our forests are stacked like bonfires right now because fire hasn’t cleaned them propertly in decades. THAT is what he is talking about.
He just doesn’t understand that “Cleaning the floor” isn’t something that can actually be done without moving people out of those areas and letting fires burn again and he is a fucking idiot to boot. And this fire isn’t in a forest. So he is a double fucking moron. But we all knew that.
