Stolen by centuries of corruption and mismanagement.
The Russian educational system collapsed after the cold war and their demographics are terrible. It doesn’t have enough skilled workers to not have to worry about some of them leaving. This exodus is going to hurt them.
At this rate I don’t know if Russia will recover as a country in our lifetime. Not without a Marshall plan type thing which will only happen if they disarm, so unlikely.

A lot of Russian IT people in Armenia as well.
Putin thought oil, gas and nukes was Russia’s primary resource. But it was always its youth, and now they’re leaving.
