7. The federal budget for 2023 was **613 billion**.

   The **GDP** for 2023 was **4185 billion** (including the 1st supplementary budget).

   Hopefully you can see straight away that they are giving this as a percentage of GDP so that it doesn’t sound as grotesquely high as it is.

   **3% of GDP is 125 billion or 20% of the budget**. Of course, that much is not available in the budget at all, because there are legally required social benefits and the like.
