Remember when it was merely a pandemic and gas price was low because of lockdown? Good times… (April 2020)

  1. Just shows you how much money oil traders make. Since 2020, taxes on petrol/diesel have gone up marginally (8 ct per liter I think).

During the same period, we went from EUR 0.71 (excluding VAT) to EUR 1.805 (excluding VAT) per liter of diesel.

So while the government gets an additional 8 ct out of that difference (due to the tax hike), the rest (a whopping EUR 1.02 per liter) goes to the oil companies and traders.

Even if the gov suspends the ecotax and forgoes the difference in VAT betwenn the super low prices of 2020 and stonk pricing now, we’d still pay EUR 1.82 per liter of diesel (while the gov would get taxes as if the price was at 2020 levels, oil companies take home nice fat margins).
