  1. Imagine what Irish Water would be charging now if we had let that quango get a foothold.

All necessities are targets for these robber barons now. Did you know if you actually use too LITTLE electricity they charge you a fee for that?

My landlord in college was a longtime ESB employee, I remember well his new Merc pulling up of a Thursday evening to collect his rent in cash. When we moved in the 80 euro weekly rent included the bills, one day he told us he was putting a pay as you go meter in and the oil tank would no longer be filled by him, but the rent would stay the same. In 2008, when we were all living off 100 quid a week.

  2. A lot of ESB’s profits are from ESB networks working on the grid, and a lot of their profits go back into energy infrastructure. It’s not some evil corporation trying to milk customers for all their worth

Electricity is traded on an open market and they only have a 30% share of that market, electricity is electricity no matter your provider so switch to whoever is the cheapest

  3. Going to ask a serious question because I don’t know exactly how this would work.

But in theory, once they allow us to sell power back to the grid (which lets face it, is going to be a pretty terrible price) – shouldn’t that in theory and theory only, lower our cost of electricity, depending of course on how much electricity actually gets sold to the grid.

E.g. if we cover 5% the electricity requirements, electricity prices will come down 5%….right?…..right?!

  4. What’s the chances that any dividends actually lead to some benefit to the voters; like investing in renewables, more substantial grants for EVs etc.

Or will they end up in the pockets of the crooks running the country (FFG).

  5. That money is just resting in their account until they move it on…. On a serious note, they need the money to upgrade the infrastructure it’s in dire need of some serious upgrades. We have some of the worst electrical infrastructure in the wold in Ireland.

  6. It’s not much, considering well over half of that will be from commercial operations. Selling to data centres etc.

Plus, and this is a big freaking point, we *own* the company. This is our national profit.

  7. The enforced way they swap your working mechanical meter to a pseudo smart meter that is increasing the bill and forced an increase on the EV charging station: I’m not surprised …
Also no effort is made to pay any green production back so if they keep going that way, you should see even more money going out of your pocket …
