Direct provision centres are a fucking disgrace. All very busy patting ourselves on the back for taking in the Ukrainians. Hopefully we will treat them better than the refugees we already have.

Where’s that eejit posting about how proud we should be taking in Ukrainian refugees?
This poor woman. I hope her family are doing alright. The Ukrainian war shouldn’t let us forget all of the other injustices happening here in Ireland and especially abroad in African and Middle Eastern countries.
This has basically fuck all to do with DP, and is a very cheap attempt to tie some poor woman’s natural death to MASI (the NGO in question) and their campaign to abolish any serious requitlrements for refugee status.
To be clear: _no-one_ is claiming the woman’s death was in any way caused by DP. People have illnesses, the lady in question was apparently 60, and unfortunately she died of natural causes.
It is obviously a really sad thought that anyone’s body should lie undiscovered for a day or two. Remember that the same thing happens occasionally in council flats and private homes too; it’s a symptom of social atomisation / isolation (which international migration does little to help, actually).
What can be done to prevent this happening in DP? The woman freely decided to move to Ireland; it’s sad that she hadn’t more people here who would mind her, but is that something we can mandate or control? Should asylum seekers be mandates into little friendship groups? I would think that’s too much of an intrusion on them.
Should DP staff do daily check-ins and examinations of each asylum seeker? This treats asylum seekers like prisoners or inmates, and would be probably not be welcomed by most.
What if we just didn’t have DP at all, would that have prevented this happening? Probably not: she would likely have gone undiscovered for longer if she were in a private flat. Of course, if she were set loose on the private rental market she’d likely have ended up with room-mate; maybe not ideal for a 60-year-old woman with a serious health issue either
> The allegation that the woman was not discovered for several days has been led by the Abolish Direct Provision Campaign (ADPC).
Horrible if true, but given there’s been a few cases of fake stories from groups similar to this, like the man getting his meal in a plastic bag, maybe the Indo should put ‘alleged to’ in the title?
How about we care as much about the people in our own country before we get up so distraught about other countries, fucking disgrace.
There’s a young Nigerian woman being regularly raped at the Direct Provision Center in Finglas by a senior, irish member of the staff. Yes she’s been with the guards who have done fuck all.
