Mixmaster Orban: Why Hungary’s prime minister keeps changing his tune

  1. “The EU should not fall for Orban’s attempts to distance himself from Putin. The Hungarian leader may now present himself as a pillar of European unity but, fundamentally, he has not changed.”

  2. I thought it was pretty obvious that he does whatever keeps him in power and that thing for the moment is distancing himself form Putin.

  3. Actually, in hungary only a few follows or able to understand what orban says in europe and the internal propaganda is still fully pro russian. Its pretty easy to maintain this two faced role cos this country is a very closed society, locals dont speak any languages and in europe nobody understands hungarian.

  4. He is a two faced liar, is that so hard to understand?
He has been siding with Russia for a long time, he kinda distanced itself just because of sanctions but in the end he still supports Putin’s Regime.
In such a tense conflict situation I’m wondering why should Hungary still be allowed inside the EU.

  5. Because the Ukraine crisis provides an excellent distraction from the fact that Hungary and Poland are undermining the EU and possibly even a window of oppurtunity for these two countries to escape EU sanctions.

  6. He’s an extreme right wing spineless politician. Of course he’ll take the tune that serves him best at that moment. If Putin offered him a position as the Colonel of the Soviet Army, he’d probably happily agree to it.
