  2. Of course it is. We pay billions each year in “renewable levies” on our fuel bills.

    We are effectively paying for two energy systems. One can be used at all times and is reliable (gas and nuclear). The second (solar and wind) can only be used when certain conditions are met, and the power produced by it cannot be stored. It also requires backup at all times from the first energy system for when it can’t operate.

    We have decided – first under Labour, then continued by the Tories with glee, and now even more so by Labout – to focus on the second energy system.

    If we got rid of the first energy system we would have immediate blackouts and society would collapse. If we got rid of the second energy system no one would notice a thing, and our bills would simply be lower.

    Blame politicians, and those with vested financial interests, for this.
