Germany tows Russian shadow fleet tanker carrying 100,000 tonnes of oil – media

1. The tanker Eventin, which met with an accident in the Baltic Sea near the German island of Rügen, is being towed east by three tugboats for safety reasons.

   Details: The spokesperson said such a manoeuvre will ensure more open sea space to the south, in case something unexpected happens.

   The Eventin, carrying 100,000 tonnes of oil, had been drifting in the Baltic Sea since the evening of Friday, 10 January due to a power outage on board, which left the ship unable to manoeuvre.

   The Eventin flies the Panamanian flag, but according to the international environmental organisation Greenpeace, it is actually one of the ships from the so-called Russian shadow fleet which Moscow uses to sell oil in violation of embargoes.

   The tanker, carrying 99,000 tonnes of oil, had been drifting near Germany’s coast after the accident. Germany sent a multipurpose vessel and a tugboat for its evacuation.

8. We need to start seizing the cargo of these unregistered ships, not tomorrow but now. They’re helping Russia circumvent the sanctions which is an act of war by itself.

9. Seize all shadow fleet vessels.

   Obscure & opaque ownership = seizure.
