Acclaimed Space Ghost writer David Pepose shares his pitch perfect fan cast for a potential feature film based on the franchise.
Responding to a fan question on X, Pepose quite simply stated that Mad Men star Jon Hamm would be his preferred choice for a live-action Space Ghost. Pepose also gave a thumbs up to the suggestion of Reacher star Alan Ritchson playing the part, while he stated that Academy Award nominee Josh Brolin would be a perfect fit for Space Ghost’s malevolent, interdimensional variant, the Space Spectre.

Bill Hader Breaks Down Surprising It Chapter Two Connection to Hip-Hop Legends De La Soul
Bill Hader explains how De La Soul’s debut studio album helped him discover newfound connections with his It Chapter Two costars.
Created by Hanna-Barbera Productions and designed by Alex Toth, the titular hero of Space Ghost made his television debut on CBS in 1966 as voiced by the late radio titan, Gary Owens. The original series ran for twenty episodes across a single season, which followed the exploits of Space Ghost and his young sidekicks, Jan, Jace, and their pet monkey, Blip. Space Ghost introduced a whole host of fan-favorite characters, usually in the forms of the series’ various alien villains such as Brak, Zorak, Dr. Nightmare, and Moltar.
Would Jon Hamm Be Perfect for the Live-Action Space Ghost?
In 1994, Space Ghost and his most iconic allies and enemies were brought back by Cartoon Network for creator Mike Lazzo’s spoof late-night talk show, Space Ghost Coast to Coast. The overtly irreverent series featured a multitude of guest stars and celebrity interviews, none of which were ever taken all that seriously. On top of amassing its own astonishing 109-episode run across 11 seasons across a trio of networks, Space Ghost Coast to Coast helped usher in the era of Adult Swim by launching the careers of the likes of Andy Merrill and Matt Maiellaro. Space Ghost Coast to Coast was also directly responsible for a whole host of spinoffs consisting of The Brak Show, Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law, Perfect Hair Forever, and quite possibly Adult Swim’s most famous series, Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

Shrek 5 Gets Frustrating Release Update
Shrek fans get a frustrating update on the next sequel.
In 2024, Dynamite Entertainment launched an all-new Space Ghost comic book series written by Pepose with art by Jonathan Lau. Prior to the series’ release, Pepose wrote that he was “So excited to be diving into the world of Space Ghost! When Dynamite first approached me about tackling this series, I was immediately struck by the sheer amount of raw material we had to play with — the cartoons were immensely stylish and a heck of a lot of fun, but they never had the time to develop those characters beyond their powers and the roles they played in each episode.” Pepose continued, “So we’re taking those classic vibes and using them as a starting point to dig even deeper into the characters than the original cartoons were ever able to.”
Space Ghost is currently on sale from Dynamite Entertainment.
