Love listening to European intellectuals claiming that Trump’s low IQ rhetoric is a threat to NATO solidarity but remain utterly silent on nearly a century of European apathy towards the alliance and outright criticism of American bellicosity, under-involvement in NATO-led conflicts (2000 Dutch troops in Afghanistan conflict, 0 Dutch troops in Yugoslav conflicts), and refusal to meet their self-defined spending obligations (0 years of Netherland meeting 2% quota since alliance inception, pp. 8: https://www.nato.int/nato_static_fl2014/assets/pdf/2023/7/pdf/230707-def-exp-2023-en.pdf).

    This boomer will forgive me if I discard his sudden pearl clutching because an American president has the audacity to vocalise what he believes to be the strategic interest of the United States ahead of some imaginary “NATO solidarity” which is better described as American paternalistic defense policy.
