Hello guys we wanna do a little trip to Vienna for a couple days with my gf. We once went to Strasbourg using only Deutschlandticket and we had to wait around 2 hours to change train on the way back. So when you consider that we are not gonna use Deutschlandticket this time is it safe to buy this ticket which gives you only 18 minutes to change? Should i trust ICE trains arrival time?

There’s an option on the site to increase your layover time..try that to increase
I always do it whenever I see a short layover like 15 mins and it gets increased automatically to 1 hour which is sufficient

No, the only time I could successfully catch the train with that short duration was because the subsequent train was delayed as well. That tells you a lot.

If you miss your train because of a delay from the first, your ticket effectively becomes a Flex ticket. Then take any other train to Vienna with ÖBB/DB.
IMO this amount of transfer time should be fine at the time that you are traveling. If it was later during the day I’d have at least 30min to an hour buffer. Can’t vouch for the RJX connection as it’s ÖBB, but they are generally very reliable.
It’s winter time, is enough that one incoming train got an issue and you will be stuck in lane, waiting to pass that area.
18 minutes is enough but there is no guarantee that you arrive or don’t arrive in time.
Better safe than sorry, get one hour earlier.

18 minutes is enough to change tracks but I wouldn’t trust the ICE to arrive on time so that you would have that 18 minutes. Try to increase the layover time.
But it’s in the deep night. There is not much traffic, they will be in time

Chances of catching the following train in Munich are about 80% in a pessimistic scenario.
Worst case is you have to wait an hour for the next train to Vienna starting at 7:22 from Munich Central station. You will be fine 😀
in the early morning it’s usually better than during the day, so it should be fine.
But definitely book it as one ticket from Stuttgart to Wien. In this case, if you miss the connection, you can take any following train towards Wien (DB/ÖBB, but not Westbahn), so as long as you don’t have anything important to do in Wien that morning/noon, you should be fine.
Even better would be the direct RJX 897 or Westbahn (963 or 969) services imo.
Absolutely not lol I used German trains for like a week and had half of them delayed and the other half cancelled (which is convenient because I paid for the cheapest times and then could travel in any other, but I ended up being late for an appointment because of it when a train got stopped at the tracks for like 4 hours without reason)

Interestingly, I took this exact connection (Stuttgart – Munich – Vienna) several times several years ago and iirc never had a problem in Munich. I think it’s because at that time, there’s little traffic. The second train (Munich – Vienna) got sometimes delayed while on the way, so at least once I missed my connecting train in Vienna even though we had left Munich on time.

A general rule of thumb is that for every 2 hours of traveling time you should plan for 30 minutes delay. So in your case it should at least be ~40 minutes change trains. You can always gamble, but you almost certainly will miss the second train.

Yes you can, but first no hassle and always check your transport beforehand rather than running. Not sure people disturbance here about DB, but for me it works well enough to catch the following transport via App. Google Maps is a nightmare as it never knows the delays, but only the schedule table. DB for me works really great and never let me down. You can use trip details and map to see your transport direction.
Don‘t listen for majority ad they only whine and do not control their emotions plus they fully do not orient enough or where to go. Moaning is always easier than sit and understand how things are working. That‘s why they are not satisfied with DB.

dont, my girlfriend did that the other way arround, Deutsche Bahn fucked it up and she was stranded for 3 hours in the middle of the night.
Allthough, is 6:30 then, the next train should be there in max one hour, thats possible i guess
As a rule of thumb, always include at least an hour of buffer for delays in case you don’t reach a connecting train.

Frequent Bahn traveller here. You are free to choose another connection ie 18 minutes is not always a reliable amount of time for changing rails imho. Considering a) the time of day and b) „geringe Auslastung“ indication however plus the fact you c)have to move only 3 rails further it’s probably okay in the example you posted.
Most important don’t touch Koblenz or Stuttgart main station. These cities are neckbreakers deutschebahn-wise.
If you get stuck somewhere, best do so in a bigger station for there is normally a cool commercial center and a little bit of everything for everyone to be found. Good luck and have fun traveling with Deutsche Bahn, we have no other;)!
