That Anstruther fish bar is no where near better than the Real Food Cafe up at Tyndrum for a sausage supper. Although the latter isn’t what it used to be.
I would say The Wee Chippy in Anstruther is better than the fish bar
Leo’s in Baillieston is very good
The Bay isn’t even the best chipper in Stonehaven
The golden chip in linlithgow, the best fish and chips I’ve ever had!!
Allanwater Cafe in Bridge of Allan, Ashvale in Elgin. Insane portions, great quality.
Corvis
The Grove in Montrose is excellent.
2 in Scotland? Only two?
Cromars in St Andrews and Marcos in Arbroath are both worth a mention for their fish and chips.
Fish works in Largs
theyre all the exact same slop that’ll give you your first heart failure at 50
Corvi’s Bo’ness is absolutely worth a trip!
The Carron, Stonehaven
The Redcloak, Stonehaven
Didn’t Saltcoats Fish Bar win Scotland’s best just last year or 2023?
Anstruther fish bar is now crap
Magpie – Whitby? I think not. Sullivans and Whitehead in Hornsea are miles better.
Colmans is all hype, sat in and had a bang average but overpriced fish and chips.
It’s all about Longsands in Tynemouth or The Willow in Wallsend!
Chippie is such a funny word to me
Anstruther fish bar is wildly overrated
I keep seeing people bitch online about Anstruther Fish Bar but I’ve never been disappointed there. The lemon sole supper is absolutely delectable and they do whitebait too, which is a favourite.
I used to live near Stonehaven and I really disliked the fish cakes there. They’re in sphere shapes and taste awful. I don’t want a fucking football of fish thanks.
Ullapool is always great, I’ve been to several chippies there and the haddock was superb at all.
Chip chik inn in Anniesland is by far and away the best chippie in Glasgow at a stretch scotland
Always enjoyed the ashvale in Aberdeen. But honestly in that part of the world there’s no reason the fish should ever be bad and it is rare you’ll get a bad fish supper in aberdeen or the shire in my experience.
All the chippers in stonehaven are great, the carron even claims to have invented the deep fried mars bar
Frankies in Shetland has won the Fish and Chip awards several times and isn’t mentioned, neither is another multi time winner, the Seaforth in Ullapool.
Fishmarket in Leith is so fucking good. Still dream of that monkfish curry sometimes
Why is the North of Ireland included? It’s in the UK technically, but not Britain by any means
The Wee Hurrie in Troon
Lymes fish bar isn’t even the best in that area. Plus £15 for a single fish and chips.
Bennet’s – Weymouth
Why are they all on the coasts ?
Charles’ Fish and Chips – Matlock Bath
Couple of great shouts in Orkney; Baikies Chippy in Finstoon and Willows in Kirkwall.
So, being (unfortunately) American, when I spent 2 weeks in Scotland, every place I had fish and chips was fantastic! Saying it can get better blows my mind! Now if you want truly garbage fish and chips, come to America. Then you will be able to appreciate each and every chippy you have!
No Blue Lagoon? Madness!
As a Scot who moved to England in 2022 can confirm the chippys are shite down here. Way more deserved in Scotland
Pretty much every City/Coastal Town will have at least one chippy that is as good as, most likely better than, any of these on this list.
Tried the Anstruther Fish Bar and The Wee Chippy at the same time last January. Me and the brother enjoyed both but thought the Wee Chippy was better.
Liverpool not even mentioned? This is some woolly back propaganda.
