I’ve got no spare room and little spare space, live in 1 bed flat – I was never really vocal that we should take refugees, I don’t think we’ve got much spare accommodation for them in the country, but I guess if space can be created then all is good to go.
It’s a shame our veterans don’t get looked after like this.
At a time where most of us are struggling to pay for heating, food, council tax, national insurance and everything else rises.
Theyve made it possible but unlikely, exactly what they wanted.
I personally don’t like that they’re saying “well if you want refugees you take them then”. They could come up with a plan to settle them in unaccommodated housing. I couldn’t if I want to, I still live with my folks and we do not have spare rooms.
Brits will be able to offer home to refugees, just not in the UK. If you have a holiday home abroad, the government gives you its blessing to house refugees there.
This scheme will gain very little traction. I’d wager most reasonable people are quite happy with the idea of refugees living with *other* people or being given social housing over *other* people, but that compassion quickly stops when it directly affects them.
I’d love for people to put their money where their mouth is and open their own homes up to refugees, but its just not going to happen.

But we already let our all our spare rooms to lodgers and switched from expensive childcare to au-pairs, the last time they offered us top life suggestions.
I want to do this scheme, but I don’t feel like it’s going to be enough, especially since they’re still making it challenging to apply for a visa/they’re only accepting a few. As someone who immigrated to the UK, I am not surprised at all, but I’m still disappointed and fucking pissed.
Ohhh ok and are they going to give people pay rises?
Fucking Tories. They want to appear all sanctimonious then dodge it by putting the bone on other people. I’m sure Boris can put a Ukranian family up in 10 Downing Street.
