Most Americans support ending the US embargo of Cuba, but we keep the embargo because the US is nowhere close to being a legitimate democracy.

  1. It’s because until this year the votes in South Florida were critical for two senate seats and the Presidency.

The calculus was you have ~150,000 voters that really really care outweighs the 150,000,000 who don’t really give a shit.

As Florida races away from being a swing state Dems are going to go hard on gutting the Embargo.

  2. We embargo Cuba to ensure Republicans keep winning in Florida. As for those in Cuba who support the embargo…..it is just a petty grudge over sh*t that happened over 50yrs ago.

  3. If Cuba actually wanted to end the embargo then they could make nice with the ex-cubans living in Florida. But they don’t and continue to make threats. We should strengthen the embargo until Cuba stops being an oppressive dictatorship to its people and others who have fled to Florida.

  4. No, we are a democratic republic, meaning we get to choose between two people who will equally patronize us as constituents.

  5. It’s because we’re a Republic. Which means we vote for electors who, in turn, vote in issues.

The American public doesn’t vote on anything directly, obviously. Most Americans have no clue about Cuba, how it works, or their political ties that aren’t really advantageous (or even safe) for the US

  6. Because the Cuban Embargo is codified through legislation and the only way to end the embargo is to repeal them and it’s unlikely to happen under Trump 2.0 administration.

  7. What the fuck is this?
Not a legitimate democracy? people who write this? Have you ever gone to other non western european countries?

  8. Your daily reminder that Cuban immigrants, thanks to the Cuban Adjustment Act, get special immigration privileges and welfare handouts upon arrival. Cubans are equal to all other immigrants and therefore must go through an equal immigration process. Call your senator and urge them to repeal the Cuban Adjustment Act.

Repeal the embargo, repeal the Cuban adjustment act.

  9. Whatever flaws are in the US democratic system, they pale in comparison to the tyranny of Cuba’s dictatorship.

  10. Cuba has also kept close ties with Russia, which despite Trumps personal ties, is actually an enemy of the United States for obvious reasons.
