The Russians remotely detonated a Ukrainian mine from a drone using a rope and a piece of metal. The mine's initiation board is equipped with a magnetometer that records changes in the magnetic field.

  1. I wondered how long this would take. Its early days now but I can’t wait to see what they come up with.

  2. It’s amazing how quickly war has evolved in the last few years….I’m glad we didn’t have those attack drones while I was in Iraq…..

  3. All the technology of modern warfare and a bit of metal tied to the end of a line of string is still a solution.

  4. they told us to comb the desert so we’re combing it

  5. If it looks stupid but works. It still might be stupid but it worked.

  6. still, it would be cheaper and easier to use a russian…..instead of using expensive and functional equipment that can be damaged!

  7. i bet that guy who got blown up poking a mine with his knife feels a little silly

  8. This reminded me of pulling a tooth out with a string tied to a door knob.

  9. “I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.” Albert Einstein

  10. thats from a low level type mine, better ones will not trigger that easily

  11. I mean this is pretty smart, but to have to drive the drone over there to blow up one mine because the steel will get blown away seems inefficient.

    Still cool though

  12. Welp, if it’s stupid and it works I guess it’s not stupid

  13. It’s a matter of time before only the pour countries put humans into war. Drones are fighting drones these days. Can’t help to love that part of the evolution.

  14. 03-04 Iraq we were allowed to still shoot ieds waiting for eod was hours on end and would put us in a shit situation.

  15. It must be a magnetic mine as the piece of steel that big wouldn’t weigh enough to trigger a TM-62 anti-tank mine.

  16. Man, I wish we had drone when we were doing Route Clearence in Iraq…would have saved countless lives & would have been pretty cool too

  17. Next up: Ukrainians setting mines as bait and then taking out the Russian drone

  18. Effective, fast, functional, No soldier has to go in person to move it, safe. Ingenious solution

  19. Was that mine just placed on the road surface? I thought the idea was to hide them

  20. Why can’t they just sit on the front of their tanks with a fishing rod and a piece of steel?

  21. I feel like that mine may have been PLACED by a Ukrainian drone, too

  22. This issue can actually be mitigated, partly atleast, to where the magnetic mine will detect *less* on the metal wire. I’m letting you figure out how though. For reasons.

  23. Why not just grenade it? Aren’t grenades like dirt cheap? $10-$15 grenade would seem a lot more efficient and safer for the drone.

  24. Impressive albeit cumbersome and slow. At this rate we should have the zone de-mined in 2425
