Threat to food production and consumer prices described as severe as excise duty set to be cut

I understand inflation and deflation and lucky enough I should be able to weather the storm on the short term increase in the cost of living… But… (and this may be a stupid question) how in the event of inflation stalling in the future and subsequently the cost of supply chain etc. coming down will we feel that easing? Is it a case that it won’t be passed onto consumers? And the prices we have today is now our “new normal” . I’m not talking about petrol /diesel exclusively but everything that is currently affected by this
