Hi. I recently noticed that in Germany one can register a. "non-profit" limited liability company or gGmbH (gemeinnützige GmbH): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GmbH
What is the equivalent form in Switzerland if someone wants to register a company with a charitable/non-profit purpose? Is Verein/Association the only option?
Thanks a lot

For everything you dont want to earn money with Verein is the much better Option.
No official buerocrats needed. Simply be 3 people, make Statuten (you can find templates online) and have a GV where you get drunk together every year.
Win.
I am…not sure, but I googled “”gemeinnützige gmbh” schweiz” and got several hits concerning EXACLTLY this.
Apparently something that exists in Switzerland (compared to “Stiftung”) – but not used as much.

It exists since a few years, but it is not really used.
Charitable and non-profit organisations are usually foundations (Stiftung). Associatoins (Verein) are used for activities with no business angle at all (like a sports club or interest group).
I worked for a Swiss non-profit foundation for nearly 20 years if you have specific questions.
FYI, Vereine have limited liability as well, so you might not need it anyway.

we need more INFO:
You say you want a profit, but a small one, so it’s not pure non-profit purpose?
People are commenting “just make a Verein”, but this could be a bad idea if you specifically want limited liability!
Anyway, any GmbH can be non-profit per se. I mean you decide what that GmbH does, so maybe give us some more info.
Do you want to build houses and get help that only non-profits do? Then you should rather get a Genossenschaft.
You want to help kids discover skiing? Work as a Verein.
What’s your case?
