This must have been from when I bought my first turntable when I was 15 and Richer Sounds only had one store. I’m going to buy a 70” TV at the weekend from them so thought it was worth a craic.

  1. The manager might be impressed you still have it or surprised as it’s older than them.

  2. If it’s gone up in value as much as house prices since 84 then you’ll probably get change!

  3. See if they’ll give you the current value due to inflation – about £3.

  4. I would either keep it or sell it on ebay. Might get a tenner for nostalgia value.

For a long time that London Bridge store had the highest turnover per square foot in the world.

  5. I think that if you email Julian Richer with this you would probably get a genuine, and helpful response. julianoffice@richersounds.com

I am not a shill or in any way employed by them, but Richer Sounds are one of the best companies that I have ever dealt with as a customer. If you don’t already know their history and business structure then have a read.

Please do keep us updated if you do email and they reply.

  6. If you do get it accepted, I guarantee it will be all over Richer Sounds’ socials. They’d be idiotic not to accept it.

  7. Looks like that store has moved half a kilometre down the street from the address on the voucher, so they might have you on a technicality, if they really wanted to get out of honouring it. I bet if you tried to use it they would take it though! It’s only a quid after all.

  8. They always used to advertise they would never sell TV’s through the 90’s!

I see they say “We only sell AUDIO” in their charter here too.

  9. I’d be highly surprised if they didn’t accept it, just to have it in their posession as a blast from the past.

Any decent manager would just give the £1 out their own pocket worst case.

Could be worth reaching out via social media as a cheeky ‘happened to find this, can I use it’. They might even offer you more than £1 off for you turning it over. Easy social media post for them.

  10. I used to work for Richer Sounds, and i guarantee you they’d accept that voucher.

  11. I found £50 I think in Marks and Spencer vouchers on an old book they had no barcode and marks and sparks still took them. No idea how old they were.

  12. “We only sell AUDIO”… Then where the hell did I buy my last 2 TVs from then???

  13. I used to work in that store! Happy commission days they were! And I know Ricky and Chris! (Edited for content).

  14. Sales Promotion Agency expert here: from the looks of the voucher there is nothing in the terms and conditions of the voucher giving an expiry date so you should be able, according to my understanding of UK Promotional law, be able to redeem this in Richer Sounds.

You might get more money by emailing Julian as suggested, if i was them I want love this voucher and would exchange it for a much larger value

  15. Please post a follow up post when you get a response

Contact them on socials! CEO would be best so it goes to the top

  16. Paper National Book Tokens don’t expire. I’ve had people spend the old style of tokens (which were kind of like stamps that you tear off a sheet) at the bookstore I work at.

Those were phased out in 1990, I think.

  17. Knowing RS, there’s a good chance they’d honour this in some way.
