  1. Texas is dominating the development of renewable energy generation and battery capacity within the United States, and is estimated to have installed nearly 80% more combined solar, wind and battery capacity than the next largest state.

  2. Strange headline since California has massively more battery storage. Almost exactly the same solar PV

  3. Hmm. The article says Texas had 6.5 GW of utility-scale battery capacity as of the end of 2024, yet ERCOT claimed 9.5GW of utility-scale battery capacity in 2024.

Anyway, Texas tends to dominate many absolute-value rankings because its grid is so much bigger. Texas produces as much electricity as the #2 and #3 states combined.

  4. Texans also use well over 200% of the Electric PER CAPITA as folks in the more reasonable states.

One can only imagine how far ahead our country would be if not for many states using 2X and 3X the Electric per capita as others. (Note, low states are mostly the known Blue leaders – CA, New England, some of the upper Midwest and so on).

This is a massively big deal.

  5. I think one discussion that isn’t been had is proper energy management. Especially with tech companies and AI server farms which I don’t see as essential and can be a considerable waste of resources both electricity and water.

If your house is using a ton of electricity your answer shouldn’t be immediately add more solar panels, it should be okay what’s using all my electricity and what can I do to reduce that first. I don’t think that’s the approach we’re taking and it will bite us in the ass in the next few years.
