GALESBURG, Ill. (KWQC) – The Supreme Court is just days away from making a decision to ban the app, TikTok, in the U.S. unless the popular app is sold by it’s China-base parent company.
It’s a decision that’s coming down to the wire, with a Jan. 19 deadline. But one Galesburg business owner who’s viral on the app, says she’s not worried about the app potentially being banned.
Judy Wang is the owner of Judy’s Family Cafe, and she has thousands of followers on TikTok, Facebook and Instagram.
Everyday people come to Wang’s café because they see her on TikTok.
Wang said she’s even had visitors at her café from New York and London.
“First I say really, really, the people come from all the way,” Wang said.
If the app isn’t sold to a U.S. company, the app will not be allowed to be downloaded from the app store anymore, and officials say the ban will impact the app being able to update, which will eventually lead to its death.
Despite the looming ban, Wang said she isn’t worried.
“We’re just here to business, you know, people finding me not only on TikTok, they also Facebook, Instagram and YouTube,” Wang said.
This is a developing story. TV6 will continue to provide updates online and on-air as they become available.
