A flight of Latvian national airline airBaltic from Sofia and a flight of Hungarian low-cost airline WizzAir from Kutaisi were diverted from Riga Airport to Vilnius Airport, while a flight of Finnish national airline Finnair returned to Helsinki.

Vincevs confirmed that a drone had been detected in the vicinity of Riga Airport on Monday, January 13, evening, in the landing path of the aircraft and that the airport had been closed for approximately 30 minutes as part of a security procedure.

Vincevs noted that departures were also closed during this period, which delayed the departure of the Turkish Airlines flight to Istanbul.

Representatives of the State Police said that they had received information about an object resembling a drone seen over the airport area. The police, together with their cooperation partners, are verifying the information.
