Corporate and billionaire owners of major media outlets have betrayed their audiences’ loyalty and sabotaged journalism’s sacred mission — defending, protecting and advancing democracy. The Washington Post’s billionaire owner and enlisted management are among the offenders. They have undercut the values central to The Post’s mission and that of all journalism: integrity, courage, and independence. I cannot justify remaining at The Post. Jeff Bezos and his fellow billionaires accommodate and enable the most acute threat to American democracy—Donald Trump—at a time when a vibrant free press is more essential than ever to our democracy’s survival and capacity to thrive.

I therefore have resigned from The Post, effective today.(Jen Rubin)

  1. This is Jennifer Rubin. She is one of nearly a dozen of the WAPOs most trusted journalists who decided to prefer principles over paycheck in the last few days. They’ve left.

I cannot say I agree with her most of the time. Only muchly. But I have never thought to question her integrity.

  2. She’s the real deal. The whole point of journalism is to have objective discussions-especially when we can’t understand the other side (understand does not equal agree btw).

  3. Why does anyone even read the WPo?!? We all know it’s compromised and will never put out authentic journalism moving forward. I hope they see a massive wave of unsubscribes. I feel bad for the people who have tried to make their living from working here. Ultimately the ones left are forced to make a decision; put food on your table and write pointless pieces or leave to a market of uncertainty.

  4. Cancelled my subscription as soon as I found out about what an evil bitch bezos was

  5. My god what is it going to take for people to see what is going on? RIP America. 🫶

  6. I apologize I want to thank you for your commitment to principles over profits, JR.

  7. Why is there not an actual independent new source in this country? Even the sources that are supposed to be independent are just funded by smaller rich people, giving a voice to the stories they want shared and in the way they want them shared.

It’s all about manipulation, why hasn’t anyone created an actual free press in this country? I could see people buying an actual paper newspaper if that was the only way for them to get real news out without censorship. What’s the point of free speech if this is how it’s handled?

  8. I SHOULD have cancelled my subscription in November, but I gave Bezos the benefit of doubt. Silly me.

I DID cancel it earlier this month.

I loved reading the Post – mostly the Opinion pages. LOVE(D) Jennifer Rubin. It is unfortunate that they have succumbed to the darkness as democracy dies.
