  1. Women are desperately seeking methods that don’t cause several pages worth of side effects. Side effects that include strokes, blood clots and cancer.

These apps are constantly pushed on every platform, even though I’ve never been interested.

Then you have sexual health treatment and guidance availability. In my area, this is only provided by GUM clinics. They only accept patients 25 and under. Others are 18 and under. I’m screwed for my next implant.

  2. “Tanya Lane, contraception lead, explained: “This could be a result of the rise in popularity of social media platforms like TikTok, which has seen more people sharing their experiences…and content creators doing paid partnerships with brands of fertility awareness methods that might be influencing people to choose this option.”

I’m not being facetious but it might be worth investing more class time to be spent on critical thinking and safety evaluation of online content.

  3. I feel like we’ll see attacks on contraception using same anti-vax or anti-trans puberty blocker fear stories about treatment.

Taking side effects stories but exaggerating them into conspiracies, treating science and medicine like it’s dangerous chemicals with fad diet talk, overloading more and more information designed to scare people in ways they can’t fact check easily, urban myth scare stories, attaching real life bad stories but making it sound like everyone could suffer it/excluding the details that show it’s rare case, lying about side effects or lying about damage it does etc. then this solution of ‘natural, chemical free’ lots of fake success stories. Either heritage foundation or new age grifter types with an Amazon merch to sell. Instead of arguing for better treatment it wants to eliminate treatment

It’s more fruitful in US where healthcare system is bad and easy to spread misinformation on treatment when it’s inaccessible and people seek cheap alts. Concerned it’s working here. While some people do have trouble with side effects of some medications there’s plenty others to try. UK has best gynaecologists system where you can see a specialist without GP referral and they have all options to try and inform you on. https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/sexual-health/visiting-an-sti-clinic/

    > Commonly reported side effects of hormonal contraception include headaches, feeling sick, mood swings, weight gain, sore breasts and acne.

    >There is not enough evidence to show if these side effects are caused by hormonal contraception.

    >If you get side effects, they usually get better within around 3 months.

    >If side effects are a problem for you, contact the GP surgery or the sexual health clinic where you got your contraception. A different type of contraception may suit you better.

  4. Looking back this was very risky and we were probably just very lucky, but my wife and I used the pull out method without a single incident for 7 years.

I’d begun to think one or both of us were probably infertile, but when we started trying for kids we conceived within a couple of months on both occasions.

So for us at least nature did provide a good solution.

I have since had the procedure.

  5. Im not surprised. No one wants to be on hormones all the time. I know many women where it makes them depressed. Personally i didnt know myself and what i was like off hormonal contraception as id been on it since 16. I switched to the copper coil ajd haven’t looked back.

I know many women have concerns around whether it causes endometriosis and pcos to be on hormones for contraception from 16. I know one woman who got a blood clot from her contraceptive.

As a woman, i just dont want to have to mess with my hormones and natural biology.

My copper coil has served me well for almost 10 years now and im getting it out soon so we can have kids.

I do wonder about the effect it has on long term fertility. There doesnt seem to be that many studies out there.

I also don’t like the fact that theres levels of contraceptive in the water from the amount people take.

Its a double edged sword. But there will always be a minority who use abortion as birth control instead of other means.

  6. They just need to speak to women. I was on the pill and it made me depressed among other side effects. Furthermore my at the time undiagnosed autism/ADHD (a whole other story about women’s healthcare) made it hard to be consistent with the schedule. I moved on to the copper coil instead which gave me constant pain and bleeding for months and months. At the GUM clinic I was then gaslit about this and told that the coil could not be the cause and it may be something very serious. Went through various unpleasant investigations for an alternative cause which all came up empty. They told me not to take it out. I insisted. And it turns out the cause was….the coil! So then I moved on to tracking. Yes maybe you won’t have any of these side effects but if you do it’s a misery and like everything, a battle to be heard and understood by healthcare services.

  7. The internet is filled with misinformation about the pill. For the vast majority of women is completely safe and has little to no side effects. Particularly the newer generation pills and micro-pill. Feministsintellectuals have done some lasting damage by pushing this narrative.

An anecdote from when I was younger.

Went on date with a girl who had just finished her Master’s degree in law. During the date she talked at length about her she wanted to become barrister, how she was inspiration to her family as the first girl to go university, spent her inheritance on her education, etc, etc. She also went on, at length about the patriarchy, how the pill is weapon used to suppress and control women. Make them depressed and submissive. I nodded along and went back to hers as that’s what you do at university but as you can imagine, it didn’t work out beyond few dates.

Six months after graduating she was pregnant. Now a stay at home mum. Facebook page is now filled pseudo intellectual stuff still but absolutely nothing meaningful has been accomplished. Certainly dodged a bullet.

    Ladies, don’t be like her!

  8. I use Natural Cycles and think that with perfect use (temping at same time exactly etc) it is quite good but there are a lot of things that can throw the algorithm off and there needs to be more awareness of these

  9. I know people who have used the natural method. If done correctly there are no issues.

  10. Maybe they should explore alternatives to the current contraceptives that cause life-threatening side effects.

It is not just the ‘rare’ side effects that impact women’s lives & health.

One of the most common side effects “Changes to mood, anxiety & depression.” became life threatening for me.

    Progesterone-only contraceptives made me suicidal.

I don’t really remember much at all but my partner has explained & cannot stress how bad it was, like a completely different person. He was scared of losing me.

I can’t try combined contraceptives, due to the side effect of stroke being a higher risk in people who suffer migraines with aura.

Trying to get the implant was excruciating—I’ve never experienced pain like that in my life.

They need to develop new medications and better pain management options.

For people who experience significant pain when getting an implant, they should be offered gas and air along with a cervical block (I’ve heard this is effective for implant fittings), or, ultimately, the procedure should be available under anesthesia.

I’m fully aware that natural contraception through cycle tracking is far less effective at preventing pregnancy than actual contraceptive devices or medications.

However, it’s more important to me that natural contraception is far more effective at keeping me alive & well.

  11. If you don’t want them ‘ pop em , life has never been easier .
