A German court has banned a supermarket from selling a product as "Dubai chocolate," ruling that the trendy confectionary may only be labeled as such if it actually comes from the Emirate.
The court ruled that the discount supermarket Aldi could no longer sell its "Alyan Dubai Handmade Chocolate" since the product in question was actually made in Turkey
Aldi argued that this was made clear on the reverse label, but the court concluded that the product's name could lead consumers to assume "that the product is actually produced in Dubai and imported to Germany."
Damn right!

Just call it “fine chocolate, dubai style” or something.

I didnt think Dubai chocolate was protected by a special location of origin designation (like Turkish cofee or Turkish Delight)
Is it actually good? Haven’t tasted it.
what does that mean for Döner then?
Someone should start a lawsuit on Mars chocolate bars
Big if true
Dubai chocolate is soooo 2024…
I thought this is common knowledge that is why they cannot sell Greek yogurt if it is not from Greece
kann man die sonst wo eig schon günstig kaufen? Weil lecker klingt das ding schon
You know this Loriot sketch in ‘Pappa ante portas’ where Evelyn Hamann is product tester in a chocolatery?
‘Moegen Sie Ernst zu mir sagen?’
Have to think of that when i see that picture
EDIT: Downvote from dubai chocolate fanboi apparently
Dubaier Art.
>Damn right!
What exactly is good about that? Asking genuinely. Like the only two consequences I can envision right now are 1. those who actually import from Dubai being rewarded, and 2. the rest having to change their packaging to say “Dubai-style” instead of Dubai, and neither of these consequences seems like great win to me?
Glad they’ve clarified this; now they can call it Schokolade Dubaier Art or something 🤭 This remainds me so much of an old yet famous scene from a Tamil movie.
And Kinder Schokolade from … 💀
Interesting choice, considering in germany we have:
Hamburger, Berliner, Amerikaner, Pizza Hawaii
And in other countries it’s the same, e.g.US:
~~German Chocolate Cake~~, Danish Pastry, French Toast
Edit: “German” was the name of the inventor
Rare W form German courts.
But a big one
What about Mars bars?
What is dubai chocolate
What Court decided this? Because a decision like that is usually only made when TM infringement happens … can you link a source ? I’m professionally curious
What about Indian Restaurant owned by Pakistani & Bangladeshi ?
can anyone explain why Dubai Chocolade got so hyped?
ELI5 plz
Fun fact. Dubai chocolate is not a thing, it does not exist. If you go to Dubai and ask for Dubai chocolate, most of them will be confused.
Its just a middle eastern milk chocolate with a pistachio cream filling. honestly not even that good, and it’s very sugary & heavy that you are supposed to eat it in small sizes (not the massive bars that sell here)
The whole over the top, hand in ass marketing of Dubai is honestly pathetic.
Well now.. I have an argument about Coke.
Who reported Aldi?
What about Wiener Schnitzel? Sauce Hollandaise? Spaghetti Bolognese? Which parts of them have to come from the respective cities or countries?
