SF calls for ‘financial resolution’ to immediately reduce excise duty on fuel

  1. Government will wait until it reaches 2.50 a gallon then reduce the vat bringing it back down to 2 euro and expect you to be grateful.

  2. That’s right Mary Lou, say some unsustainable shite you don’t have to be accountable for.

It upsets me that some people will hear this and think it’s actually a solution.

  3. Actually no, what we need to do is use the revenue we have to support those on the lowest incomes & the rest of us more fortunate demand our government to act now & develope our vast untapped offshore wind resources.

  4. At this point, the solution might be just to reduce tax on other goods to mitigate the damage of fuel, particularly grocer’s. Problem would be to get producers to summarily reduce their prices

  5. The 10% rent cut they accidentally voted in in the North before reversing it after they realised their mistake probably would’ve helped people cope with skyrocketing fuel costs…

… But I guess they don’t want to bring that up right now with the populist bullshit.

    Don’t believe SF, go left.

  6. Sinn Fein just tell ya what they want. They don’t do shit about it. If yous think they’re a guiding light up here then god help ye.

Theyre always saying how they hold a left stance. Yet as a culchie I can guarantee the majority of their voter base is good honest chapel going folks who don’t want anything to do with pro choice and lgbqt etc despite publicly saying so. You’ll never find any of them up here at any rallies or support in a proper way.

  7. No. Get on your bike or public transport or work from home or you need to pay for our freedom and environmental armageddon.

  8. Honestly, I don’t know why the government insist on wasting so much money on PR when any open goal they have is ignored.

This was so easy not to fuck up. Announce swift action, rebalance the excise and VAT to a level where the exchequer still earns its usual amount but the fuel costs are improved and everyone is happy. All they needed was to look like they were moving on it. Instead, they drag their heels and give SF the opportunity to be the heroes for demanding faster action be taken. They really should funnel the budget for their PR firms into reducing costs of living because at least then there’s a chance it’ll be well spent.

(Not a FG, FF or SF voter, just can’t get over how easy an opportunity it was for a government struggling with popularity to score some points and they still drop the ball).
