  1. I am into analog photography and as i recently taught a friend how to use a 35mm camera he went out and bought a small lot of old cameras with some film. He received also some rolls of 120 medium format film (which i shoot) and gifted them to me as he’s only shooting 35mm (for now). One roll of **Kodak Panatomic-X** was in a small can and sealed with the “exposed” sticker. Assuming that film stock existed from 1933 till the late 80’s / early 90’s i can assume that this film is **at least 35 years** old but propably older.

I developed the film at home using Rodinal 50+1. The ink of the cover paper bled a little onto the negatives and the film is slightly fogged due to the age i assume but still some good pictures.

So i’m just curious if somebody can pinpoint the exact locations as i’m not much of a hiker. Berner oberland for sure. For all i know everybody on the photos could be deceased already but if you, by any chance, think you see a relative on those photos please feel free to contact me if you want the negatives or some high-res scans.

  2. Somewhere above Grindelwald. Could be the area of First which used to have a chairlift going up (now it’s a cabin lift AFAIK).

The mountain on 8, 9 and leftmost on 12 is Eiger. 11 could be Wetterhorn.

  3. The second photo is Bachalpsee, with Schreckhorn central in the background. Third photo is also Bachalpsee, taken from a different angle (slightly to the right of the second photo) with Mittelhorn in the background. Photo 6 looks like Lauterbrunnen as seen from Trummelbach falls. 7 appears to be the Schreckhorn again, and 8 looks like Eiger. 7 and 8 will have been taken from the walking trail linking First and Bachalpsee

  4. The clothes and hairstyles remind me of the 50’s/60’s, maybe 70’s.
So, I would say the pictures were taken at least 45 years ago, and on an average guess, 60 years ago.

  5. In the 4. & 5. picture, the girl in the middle has a card board in her hoodie, saying “Berner Oberland”.

  6. Maybe someone can recognize the valley in the 10. picture.
We could then check, if there are structures today, that are missing in the picture, like a highway, national road, buildings etc. to guess the minimum age.

  7. This might help date it

    – There’s some faint letters, maybe from the analogue film producer? Can’t really tell.
    – there’s streetlights
    – there’s a book with font that was often used in the 40ies/50ies

  8. For the #6, I would say it’s close to the Trummelbach Falls. Not sure, but I took a picture some times ago and it’s quite similar!
