Fingering the night away.
More nightclubs in Donegal than Cork.
Worked in the nightclub trade for 6 years pre-pandemic. It was always a uphill battle to do anything, and years of false promises like introducing a ‘Night Mayor’ in Dublin to support all night activates such as night transport. Not surprised to see it’s still a dying industry
Limerick – night club city!
Kilkenny – 🙁
Just 4 nightclubs in Galway county? That can’t be right???
Where is the nightclub in Wexford? I thought the only one left was The Stores and thats gone
Kilkenny can’t be right – surely Langtons is a nightclub?
Nightclubs trending downwards. Social media, Gen Z drinking less and Covid the driving factors. Festivals are going from strength to strength though.
Jaysus i remember when Cavan had 2 and Meath had 3.
Something needs to be said about the quality of nightclubs here too. 80+ but many of them are absolutely woeful. In so much of the country, if you want techno you need to go to Dublin or abroad.
Ireland, and Dublin in particular, has the potential to be a world-leading entertainment destination but so much is holding it back. NIMBYism and greed being two that stick out straight away.
The rave needs to come back in a huge way.
No comment on night club’s but the map showing Kilkenny as a coastal county is misleading
The Left Bank in Kilkenny has a night club no?
Did they ever sort out the licensing?
Having to close at what, 2am? That made nightclubs here a joke. The nightclubs over in the UK were running until 4 or 6am by default 25 years ago. And that’s not counting the unlicensed clubs that opened around 4am and just served water, soft drinks, ice pops, lollipops and chewing gum.
Nightclubs in Clare are one of the layers of Dante’s inferno
Is the government still extending nightclub opening hours??
Nightclubs caused their own death. Masters in taking the piss.
Charging ppl 10-15 ‘entry fee’, plus a fiver to store your coat. To pay extortionate prices for a stale beer that increase as the night goes on.
Versus your average decent latebar
I think I’ve been to one of the two nightclubs in Clare…never again.
It’s not higher because it’s literally not worth the hassle to operate a night club compared to a late bar. A late bar can sell alcohol until 02:00, and the close up at 02:30. A night club licence allows to serve until 02:30 and stay open until 03:00. You can’t turn a bar into a night club, there’s different requirements like fire safety, security and other stuff. You can get a Special Exemption Order for your bar to operate until almost the same time as a night club, so what’s the point of going through all the extra hoops?
I remember back in the early 90s there were at least 13 nightclubs in Galway city alone.
What about the northern counties?
Don’t tell me The Palace counts as a nightclub and where is the second one in Meath?
Would love to see 2009 added to this
The noise of them makes socialising difficult
Where’s the one in Wicklow?
Can’t be correct for Leitrim, Carrick on Shannon alone has a number of late venues.
It’s definitely a dying industry. I remember going out in Galway as a young lad 10 years ago, you would have club promoters almost fighting each other to get the chance to give you a stamp for free entry and a free shot of apple sour or whatever.
I tried going to a club recently (the only remaining club in the city at the time I might add) after a night out and the bouncers literally told me not to bother going in as there was nobody in. They weren’t just saying it to get rid of me either as you can see the smoking area from outside and it was a ghost town.
Where the fuck is the one in Tipp?
Hideously expensive at all levels. Was fun in my late teens early twenties in college. Would rather shit in my hands and clap than go to a club in Dublin now.
Would be interested to see how this compares to to something like 2004-2008. I would imagine it would be double these figures pretty much across the board
And all 4 of the ones in galway are a brisk walk from each other.
What are the 8 in Limerick?
Amber, Angel Lane, House, Smyths are all I can think of
There’s 3 in Offaly (not that it matters) Melbas in Birr, Phoenix in Tullamore, Club 38 in Edenderry.
I remember when there was 3 nightclubs alone in my cork town. 2 more further west along In clon then and there was several in the city. Sad to see the death of nightlife in Ireland.
What’s the one in Leitrim like
