President-elect [Donald Trump](https://www.cnbc.com/donald-trump/) on Tuesday said that he will create an “External Revenue Service” to collect “[Tariffs](https://www.cnbc.com/2025/01/08/trump-could-declare-national-economic-emergency-to-justify-universal-tariffs-cnn-reports.html), Duties and all Revenue from Foreign sources.”
Trump did not give any further details about the proposed government entity.
Currently, [U.S. Customs and Border Protection](https://www.cbp.gov/) is responsible for [collecting tariffs](https://crsreports.congress.gov/product/pdf/IF/IF11030).
“For far too long, we have relied on taxing our Great People using the Internal Revenue Service (IRS),” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.
“Through soft and pathetically weak Trade agreements, the American Economy has delivered growth and prosperity to the World, while taxing ourselves,” Trump wrote.
“It is time for that to change. I am today announcing that I will create the EXTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE to collect our Tariffs, Duties, and all Revenue that come from Foreign sources,” he wrote.
“We will begin charging those that make money off of us with Trade, and they will start paying, FINALLY, their fair share.”

He’s a tip for Trumpy in particular and for MAGA in general. We don’t collect tariffs ($) from the country that has the tariff levied on them. We collect the tariff from the people who import the goods and they decide if they will pass that on to the American consumers.

Tariffs aren’t foreign revenue, they are paid for by the importer of goods, not the country they are put on. In other words American companies pay them and pass the cost on to the American consumers.
Sounds awfully a lot like government intervention into business. I thought this is the opposite of what was supposed to happen 🤔

At some point we need to recognize ize the effort of the GOP to move to a sales tax type taxation so the bulk of the elite’s wealth is not taxed.
TX did it temporarily by over collecting sales tax and then refunding it back to property owners.
This is their scheme to get out of progressive taxation and I expect nobody in the media or Dems to pick up on this. We will all laugh about Don’s stupidity as Donny kills the progressive tax code.

I mean I’d start going through it, word for word, to point out what’s mad about it, but the short answer is “All of it”.
