King Charles is alive and kicking, but that doesn’t mean that Prince William hasn’t started drafting up a plan for what his eventual reign will look like. Royal reports have stated that William is very prepared to ascend the throne—with it causing some friction between him and his father—and already has a few royal family members in mind who will help him perform the job to the best of his abilities.

When William becomes king, there’s a high chance that Zara and Mike Tindall, as well as royal favorites Duchess Sophie and Prince Edward, could step up to the plate.

Royal reporter Jennie Bond told the Mirror that while the Tindalls “don’t have titles,” “they obviously have the cachet of being so much part of the extended Royal Family.” Not having titles isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as the royal couple “have managed to use that commercially without getting into too much bother.”

As far as their relationship with William, the Tindalls “are both very close to William, and if he calls on them again (as he did at a garden party last year), they will definitely agree,” Bond explained. The won’t step into “an official working role, nor do I think the public would want to fund any more working royals,” the royal expert added.

Meanwhile, the Times reported that “palace insiders believe that under the next reign, William V will be eager for his aunt and uncle to play a more prominent role in public life.” His aunt and uncle are Duchess Sophie and Prince Edward, who already have favor amongst the royal court.

Sophie and Edward reportedly “get on very well” with William and Kate Middleton, a palace source explained. “She’s tough, she knows her own mind and will argue her corner. There was always a danger people underestimated her but she stood up for herself, for Edward, for them as a couple,” a former palace aide told the Times.

It’s not surprising that Sophie and Edward are in consideration for stepping up during William’s time as king. Sophie was described as the royal family’s “secret weapon” and has been a “royal sister” to  Kate while she was dealing with cancer. “Sophie and Edward were overshadowed because bigger stars in the family came along, and I think at times she did mind that. But she was always pragmatic about their place in the hierarchy,” Bond added in the Mirror report. In short: expect to see much more of these royals within the next few decades.
