Mercyhurst University held an open AI panel to provide different points of view with other professors on the excitement and fear of the evolving field.
The various talks covered why ethics needs to be a vital factor of using artificial intelligence responsibly rather than doing harm.
The organizer of the discussion explained the potential impacts it could bring in our society.
“If not used thoughtfully, if not used carefully and used socratically rather than an alternative to writing something myself, it’s going to rob us of our abilities to really cultivate our creative thinking when we just hand it off to something else,” said Dr. Verna Ehret, a Mercyhurst University professor.
The university’s next discussion panel will be on March 11 that will cover immigration and incarceration.
