  1. MAGA are snowflakes, no way you’re getting his search history

  2. If folks can refuse an FBI background check prior to being appointed to a government post, what is the point of the background check?

  3. I’m sooo tired of those in power/the wealthy having such blatantly different rules than we do

  4. “You broke your oath to two wives. Why should we trust you with this oath?”
Game. Set. Match…. At least amongst reasonable people.

  5. So we can just appoint ourselves to any position of government and refuse any procedures and checks?

  6. Isn’t he actively serving in the national guard? You get a background check every 5 years to renew your security clearance. How can he refused to consent to a check? I guess if it’s so he can get a TS/SCI he’d have to get one, however… again… HTF can he refuse to consent and still be allowed for consideration?

  7. On that basis alone Hegseth should not be confirmed. Trump has broken the system, but that what a career criminal does.

  8. I refuse a FBI background check from today forward everyone.

  9. A lot of people finding out the law is just a thing on paper with no real consequences if you just say, “ummm, no!”

  10. “**You are an abuser of women** — that is the ugly truth and I have no respect for any man that belittles, lies, cheats, sleeps around, and uses women for his own power and ego. You are that man (and have been for years) and as your mother, it pains me and embarrasses me to say that, but it is the sad, sad truth.” says **Hegseth mum in e-mail to her son.**

**2018** – The email, which Penelope sent to him in 2018, said Pete was an “abuser of women” and that she has “no respect for any man that belittles, lies, cheats, sleeps around, and uses women for his own power and ego,” according to the New York Times.

**2017 -** It came after an unidentified woman in 2017 alleged in a police report that Pete Hegseth had sexually assaulted her, which he has denied. Hegseth paid his accuser an undisclosed sum in a settlement.

**2024 -** But Penelope Hegseth said during the Fox News interview that Pete Hegseth, 44, is not the same man he was seven years ago. “Pete is a new person. He’s redeemed, forgiven, changed. I think we all are after seven years. I believe he’s the man for the job,” she said. Penelope Hegseth said she wrote the email out of “haste” and with “deep emotions.” She explained that her son had been going through a contentious divorce with his second wife at the time she wrote it.

News Corp-owned Wall Street Journal is advising against selecting hosts or people from News Corp-owned Fox News for government positions.

  11. In a sane word, the absolute evisceration he suffered during his confirmation hearing should be disqualifying. It was so bad, it made Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing look like a walk in the park by comparison. He demonstrated a clear lack of interest in the actual field he’d be overseeing while simultaneously demonstrating that he had no deeply-held values in regards to foreign policy since he simply wants to pander to Trump and whatever he demands. He won’t even promise to uphold international law and abstain from war crimes because he knows Trump wants those options to be on the table.

He’s not Secretary of Defense material. He’s a mouthy puppet, just like all the other idiots Trump picked for his cabinet. The fact that he’s also an alcoholic divorcee, cheater, and abuser all falls by the wayside when he cannot even be expected to exhibit the bare minimum of competency in the field he was specifically nominated for.

  12. For everyone who didn’t watch the hearing: There was an FBI background check. Senator Blumenthal asked if he’d consent to an *expanded background* check that involved talking to a bunch of other people, such as colleagues, ex wives, etc.

Hegseth’s response was that he’s not in charge of FBI background checks.

The FBI doesn’t need his permission to talk to those people. It’s not like a university where the FBI actually needs your permission to get records because of FERPA. They can go talk to your former coworkers.

It’s weird that he didn’t just say yes since they can do it anyways. He was likely coached to just not agree to anything the Democratic members asked from him.
