John Bercow banned from holding Commons pass after bullying inquiry

  1. The difference between how he has been treated and Priti Patel after she was found guilty of bullying is stark. Really shows the closer you are to power the more untouchable you are.

  2. he seems like a bully to be honest, he looks and talks like my boss from 30 years ago who was a bully, and when Bercow appeared it took me back to those very days. Similarly, I now feel very happy that he has been done for bullying.
Even his reply to this punishment comes across as drivel, it’s obvious Bercow is upset about it, but he’s just chosen to ridicule parliament, and of course denounce ‘costs’, which are of course his fault.

  3. All the comments in here seem to be excusing or at least sidlining his behaviour because he holds the same opinion on Brexit and the government as this sub.

  4. I’ve been saying for years that he’s a huge bully. My friend was his private secretary and was treated awfully by Bercow. He’s honestly a nasty man, despite how much Reddit seems to love him. He’s a nasty piece of work.

  5. It’ll be fucking hilarious if labour refuse to purge him after embracing him as part of their soft Tory image.

  6. So apparently he’s accused of:

    * Throwing a mobile phone in an unspecified direction
    * Staring at someone “hatefully”
    * Allegedly “ghosting” somebody one time
    * Swearing “on an uncertain date in 2009”
    * Making a racially and sexually discriminatory remark

    What a menace to society.

  7. That’s probably more of a middle-finger to him for defecting to Labour.

Of course Patel gets a mere slap on the wrist because she’s in cahoots with our corrupt government.

  8. The reason this has been upheld in comparison to Patel’s bullying case which was dismissed, is Patel was only bullying her underlings, whereas Bercow was objecting to corrupt MPs trying legislate experimental and detrimental changes to the UK, which they did so now Bercow’s a bully. History is written by the winners.

  9. The silencing of the tories critics begin it won’t be long till they go ful authoritarian we need to act

  10. Can we put politics aside for a moment?

The man was a rotten bully, as is evident. It really doesn’t matter if “the Tories were out to get him” and it doesn’t matter if he was a good speaker, which he was.

Doubt the people he abused will appreciate some of the deflecting going on in this thread.

  11. I’m sorry but if you really are going to get bent out of shape because another grown adult “bullied” you, you probably have no place as staff to the house of commons.

Edit: If you down vote this you were definitely born a cunt.

  12. I feel like no matter what side you consider yourself to be on, no matter whether you agree with him or not, it’s not hard to see the guy’s a prat – as are most politicians to be clear (Yes, including your favourite dartboard of hate, Patel).

  13. I’ve always thought when watching him as a speaker that it wouldn’t be very pleasant working in an office environment with someone behaving like that.

  14. Vocal critic of Johnson. Therefore he’s shafted. This is their play. Don’t argue with the boss, has nobody seen the sopranos??

  15. I’ve no idea whether Brecon is a bully or not, but I’m absolutely certain that this dreadful govt is conducting a vendetta against him by whatever means it can.

  16. Instead of saying it was amateurish and tittle tattle, he could have put his hands up and apologized for his behaviour Andrea Leadsom saw through him. Of course now being the darling of the anti brexit crew he’ll still be exonerated by the middle classes.

  17. Who prorogued parliament in 2019 and broke the law, not Bercow, who lies in parliament and gets away with it, not Bercow, typical Tories being hypocritical

  18. A lot of comments on here against John bercow
Could I ask why? I’m not being sarcastic I genuinely want to understand your point of view and the evidence to support it

  19. To some extent doesn’t a speaker have to be very assertive verging on bully? Is he any better/worse than previous speakers? Will we /can we ever know all the facts?

  20. It’s quite remarkable how people seem to indulge in whataboutism or straight up dismissal of very serious issues provided they happen to like the person charged. This isn’t about Patel. Every victim deserves justice
