Top diplomats from the Group of Seven advanced countries and the European Union in Seoul acknowledged the resilience of Korea’s democracy during a meeting with acting President Choi Sang-mok on Wednesday, according to Choi’s office.
The luncheon meeting was attended by a total of eight ambassadors and representatives from the EU, Britain, Canada, France, Japan, Germany, Italy and the United States, the finance ministry said.
The top envoys acknowledged Korea’s strong and resilient democratic system and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close and unwavering friendly cooperation.
In response, Choi expressed appreciation for the continued trust in Korea’s democracy and their support for the countries’ bilateral relations with Korea.
He also emphasized that the government is effectively performing its duties in politics, economy and national security under interim leadership.
The meeting took place just hours after investigators detained impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol at his residence in their second attempt to bring him in for questioning over his brief declaration of martial law last month. (Yonhap)
