‘The UK plans to ban Russian oil imports by the end of the year in a further tightening of sanctions after Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.’
Or….. Work on renewable like wind and solar, and add some nuclear in there too. Work on storage facilities whilst your there.
It’s fucking March. How much of Ukraine will be left by next year.
By the end of the year….when it’s still early enough in the year we all keep writing /21 by mistake. Ffs.
Hopefully they’ll soon flip flop and follow America here.
Cost of Oil will raise as will cost of living, cost to transport raw materials even recycling goods will raise due to fuel on Freighters, then then Finished goods will be transported again… And that’s just large ships on the oceans, we’re not even going from the beginning of the process.
From the BBC:
The UK government is to phase out Russian oil and oil imports by the end of 2022.
This transition period will give the market, businesses and supply chains more than enough time to replace Russian imports – which make up 8% of UK demand, it said.
It echoes a similar proposal from Washington, where President Biden is set to announce a complete US ban on Russian oil, gas and coal imports.
The EU has also today made moves to reduce the continent’s reliance on Russian gas, saying it aims to cut its demand by two thirds by the end of the year.
The UK is less reliant on Russian fossil fuels than many European countries. But Russian supplies still make up 8% of overrall imports into the UK, and 18% of UK diesel comes from Russia.
Expect petrol prices over £2 a litre within the next couple of weeks.
Hopefully no oil suppliers in the Middle East are waging unjust war
The US have announced that they’re stopping it straight away. Piss poor sanctions from Boris again.
Oh good; Middle East oil. I can’t see what could possibly go wrong with that at all.
Unfortunately this is not going to stop, people getting killed over the coming weeks or months.
Make your fuckin mind’s up on one page the cost off petrol now this I’m lost !!!!
US – Insert friendly leader in Ukraine. Piss off Russians. Reap rewards. It’s a win-win people.
Whether that is true or not I don’t know but it seems to me this war is very scripted and full of propaganda from both sides.
People in this thread who are disappointed that this isn’t immediate- wouldn’t an immediate ban sky rocket the prices of petrol? I am already struggling a bit at the thought of paying that much for a full tank, and I am lucky in that my family can support me. What about those who cannot have that to fall back?
Great. Lets stop buying oil from a country that is shelling civilians in a neighbouring country and buy from another country that is shelling civilians in a neighbouring country.
Cost of heating oil (that many houses use instead of gas for water and central heating – made from crude oil) went from £0.60 per litre in January to £1.47 last I checked today. It went +50% in a week, +£0.12 in a day. When you’re buying 1000 litres a time this is going to fuck a whole lot of homes even more
How about doing it now and just buying from North or West Africa?
Wait, why is it still okay to buy from Saudi Arabia?
Ah yes, much better to buy more Saudi oil. They’d never violate human rights or do anything similar.
Shell have the best looking fuel stations. Ukraine gonna ruin it.
It’s massive, I know people think it’s too long. But picture a billion doller industry destroyed in 12m. Fuck it I’ll pay double to fuel my home. Triple even to save children and innocent people
Maybe invest in some renewable infrastructure while you’re at it you fucking muppets.
Perfect for US oil companies/barons and rest of them to start drilling in new areas across America and in the process line their pockets up even more with all the profits they’ll be making from it and worse still fuck the environment up even more.
