Its a memorial of a Greek soldier who went missing during the Invasion of Cyprus, he was probably from Panachaiki. I don’t really know who “Christos Grivas” is.
First time I’m hearing about this but http://voulinet-ipourgia-kipros.blogspot.com/2010/03/blog-post_19.html?m=1
Don’t know if it’s a coincidence but the surname of EOKA’s(revolutionary organisation) leader was also Grivas.
Looks like a memorial of a Greek soldier that went missing in cyprus to me, we have plenty of these statues in my park here in Greece, dedicated to greek paratroopers that went missing in cyprus.
where is this?
He’s a Greek young soldier that was enlisted just before the invasion of Turkey in Cyprus. He went missing on the 15th of August while defending the NIcosia airport (now in the neutral green zone used only by the United Nations). He was 20 years old from Patra.
The statue was Inaugurated in 2010 by the then president of Cyprus.
The quote in the plaque is his. It roughly translates to “he who does not defend the common good not only does nothing but is miserable and useless”
