Chapters Bookstore sold to former Gamestop Ireland bosses

  1. I’m delighted with this news, but this whole thing strikes me as being a bit odd. The owner suddenly, and without any indication that the business had been in any difficulty, decided to close.

I assumed at the time that he was simply growing old and wanted to retire, but I thought it strange that there was no talk of trying to find a buyer for the shop prior to closing, and then they made a huge show of closing down. Weird that only a couple of months later they’re reopening with new owners.

Could they not have done this without closing down entirely first? I feel like we haven’t got the full story on this one.

  2. >He felt that with our long term and deep understanding of the Chapters business model

lol, “business model”. Refusing to sell online and having management think it’s a good idea to wander around the shop making everyone feel uncomfortable isn’t a business model.

  3. > Sara Phelan, who previously managed the store and many of her team will continue to run the new operation

Hmmm. I wonder who _exactly_ will remain from the old management. Great news of a Tuesday though, I loved that place and I hope to Christ they have the common gumption to modernise the business model a bit.

  4. This is such great news – it’s businesses with real soul like Chapters that give life to a city. And so nice that it’s 2 guys who got their start as mentees of Chapters’ owner taking over.

Impossible to walk out of there without an armful of books, can’t wait to visit again!
