LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – After two years of construction, Southeast Community College cut the ribbon Wednesday afternoon on a state-of-the-art technology center.
“This project is about is addressing one major issue … the skill workforce gap that we have in southeast Nebraska,” President Paul Illich said.
This building will house four technology related programs
Biotechnology
Design drafting
Information technology
Electronic systems
Attendance in these programs is expected to grow by 40% from the 700 students already enrolled.
The facility cost $37 million in total. Of that, $7 million was raised from private funding, including a $5 million donation from Sandhills Global that helped kickstart the project.
The city chipped in $4.8 million.
The building will open its doors to students on Tuesday.
SCC isn’t done expanding either.
In August, it will open the largest welding program in the country.
