Mixed results for Greeks in Spain

[Intime]

The first half of yet another double week in the Euroleague had mixed results for the Greek teams, as leader Olympiakos won at Baskonia in overtime and Panathinaikos went down once again at Barcelona.

On Tuesday Olympiakos needed the extra five minutes to beat host Baskonia with a 102-101 score and stay alone at the top of the table.

In a rather poor game for the Reds, Baskonia had several chances to win but was unable to bend the resistance of Olympiakos, that sent the game to overtime (89-89 after 40 minutes) and – unlike in regulation – it had the upper hand in the final five minutes of the encounter to win by the smallest of margins.

This was the 15th win for the Piraeus team in 21 games, with Evan Fournier and Shaquielle McKissic scoring 22 points apiece.

Panathinaikos had a good first half at Barcelona but was poor in the second and lost 82-73, to slump to a 13-8 record.

The Greens led 38-30 at half-time and looked good for victory in a court they have not won in almost 12 years, but the Barcelona jinx came back to haunt them in the third period, that had a partial 29-12 score.

Kendrick Nunn was in single digits in points for the first time this season (just seven, with 3/15 FG), as the hosts managed to make him lose his temper.  Jerian Grant netted 18 and Cedi Osman added 14.
