No, I think they were made from “trash” in the form of precious metals found in electronics. Quite a bit of gold to be found in dead smartphones e.g.
They were made to symbolize French culture and history.
Only the hexagonal centre but was from the Eiffel Tower. The rest is just regular metal (though the gold medals aren’t solid gold, they’re silver with gold plating)
All these controversies are the reason why I don’t participate in the Olympics
