Start of January was abnormally cold. I would venture a guess that on average this month has been pretty average. But I do agree, it feels like March with the birds singing.

The average temperature in Helsinki in January 2023 was -0.8. It’s been lower than that this year. Not as cold as last year though, but last year was a record cold January.
It didn’t even snow in 2020 in helsinki, definitely not the warmest by a long shot
Same here in Oulu. Started very cold, down to – 20°C. Now its 0-3°C and very windy
Still not as horrible as winter some years ago, when permasnow came in mid(?) January in Oulu.

Finland might be one of few country to actually profit from global warming. Population can grow and progress if it wasn’t bone chilling cold. May help in farming too.

2015 and 2020 were worse. Far worse. But that is a very worrying trend
Apparently caused by foehn wind. Also means that it rains a lot in Norway. Which might mean lower electricity prices, not sure. And yes, winter 2020 was warmer. Eternal november.
