UK Chancellor of the Exchequer outlines spending plans for a ‘new economy post-Covid’

  1. Some of the wider European aspects to this are:

    Reduction in UK based passenger flight duties of 50% but increase for duty above 5,500 miles (I hate the reduction in duty, we should discourage short flights).

    Changes on alcohol duty, basically lower content has lower tax. Reduces tax on sparkling wine including champagne (think that’s the correct spelling of the Russian name /s). Increased on higher alcohol drinks like fortified wines (port and sherry?) and strong cider.

    Lots of spending on science along with R&D. One interesting bit was tax relief will become only applicable if it’s done in UK.

    Generally this is more of a spending budget than you could expect from a Tory government.
