  1.

It seems that 23% of Russians oppose the war.

In a population of 144M this means 35 million people, slightly less than the total population of Ukraine or Poland.

The true opinion of those supporting the war is hard to know for sure. Let us not make the mistake of antagonizing precisely our best allies – righteous Russians willing to risk their freedom by opposing the hideous war on Ukraine.

  2. What would be interesting is knowing the ages of the people in favor and of those against. I am pretty sure that a very large majority of the in favor are older people who are more susceptible to believe the Russian official version of the events (an who very often only understand Russian)

  3. Old joke: What is your personal opinion on nutrition scarcity?

    * First world: What is “scarcity”?
    * Third world: What is “nutrition”?
    * Second world: what is “personal opinion”?

*Second world* includes Russia. Having your own opinion is a dangerous hobby in a country like Russia.

  4. I would hazard a guess that more Americans supported our invasion of Iraq than 58% in its first months. And no, I am not bothsidesing. I am honestly surprised support in Russia is as low as 58% three weeks in.

  5. Is really anyone that naive to think that any sane Russian will express any non supporting standpoint in a *”[The] telephone survey, carried out last week by a group of independent survey research organizations”*?

I am really surprised that almost a quarter chose to express any dissenting opinion from the government at all.

  6. I wonder what it would look like if they knew the truth about the invasion, and didn’t think of it as a “special military operation” for “denazification” of Ukraine…
