Hi! During my trips to Germany I've seen this, which I assume is a type of crop? But I don't get what's the purpose of the ropes on top. I'm pretty curious. Thanks in advance!

  1. That’s a hop field. It’s a climbing plant, so it grows on those lines.

  2. Coincidentally in the Hallertau? Likely for Hops.

  3. It’s for growing plants in the Cannabis family

    (Hops)

  4. It’s for growing hops. Each rope is used for a row of hop plants.

  5. That’s what is called a Hopfengerüst or hop scaffold. And it’s used as the name and the other posters suggested for hops

  6. It’s a Hopfengerüst. What does it do? It Gerüsts Hopfen

  7. Funny that you ask! Recently, we were on our way through the Holledau. At the hop scaffolding, our older daughter said to her younger sister: “Look, washing lines.” My wife then explained that it was for hops and that this is used to make beer. On our way home, we passed by again, and the older one said to the younger one: “Look, there is beer growing out of the ground in huge bottles.”

  8. People will tell you it’s for growing hops but in reality those are the antennas that control the “bird”-drones.

  9. Hops are growing there. I’ve worked on it few years ago. Great smell BTW
