  1. This surely has to be an absolute piss take or someone has straight up robbed the taxpayer blind

  2. Remember though the councils will magically become the best value way of providing housing, in some people’s eyes.

  3. I am often of the opinion it is better to document the history of something and photograph a building than trying to preserve it. Living in a museum gets expensive. From the picture and the article it would have better to knock and build something else.

  4. “skilled dismantling of the existing structure, transport for stripping”

Ffs, the size of it. I could have knocked it down and stuck it in the back of my car

This is exactly how i feel about this!

  6. Does it have any practical use, is it a tea room or what. ??

  7. You like, 326k for a garden shed. It’s a piss take and the jokes on you.

  8. This sort of thing will continue to happen here as no one is ever held accountable. There will be a week or two of outrage. Then the matter will be forgotten entirely as we move on to the next scandal. All you need to do is hold out until the public loses interest.

    Also;

“It was subject to a competitive tendering process and therefore prices are reflective of the market prices for such skills and experience,” the statement said.

Let’s the see the pricing from the other tenders so, these tenders are weighed heavily on the pricing. Hard to believe there wasn’t viable competition for less than €330,000….

  9. 215k for the hut, rest is for surrounding work. The costs are explained in the article by the council, particularly elevated because of the historical nature. I’d say that’s just the cost tbh. Same with the bike shed, when the costs were broken down they were okay.

  10. We are literally being robbed in broad daylight. Something has to change. We will all end up on the fucking streets at this rate

  11. This is why people don’t trust government…tax rises I would agree with if I thought it would reduce hospital waiting lists or build homes . But giving them more money doesn’t solve anything IMO

  12. Things like this are amusing because while I personally don’t see much value in it, someone else clearly does. If I had dedicated my life to studying that subject, I’d probably be thrilled to see so much effort and funding poured into its restoration.

When it comes to historical preservation, though, who gets to decide if an old round tower or a humble shed is worth saving? And should government be involved in historical preservation?

  13. Who did the restoration and what relation are they to the gowl who authorised the expenditure?

  14. If any of you voted for FFG you don’t have the right to complain. You literally knew about the bike shed, children’s hospital etc and still voted them back in. You essentially approved of this kleptocratoc carry on with your vote

  15. Probably find the storage cost a few hundred grand too

  16. The Irish taxpayer.

    The gift that keeps giving.

  17. We could have afforded 1.5 additional junior ministers for that money FFS

  18. Seeing as it was the Black and Tans who burnt it: ask Britain to reimburse the cost – lol.

  19. Well, we had an election in November and most people are happy with the way things are.

  20. How did they think they would get away with that after the bike rack?!?

  21. Honestly I feel much better about this than the bike shed, this is at least a historically relevant listed structure.

Like it’s basically an art installation, and with listed stuff and degradation, the price seems a chunk high but seems like, idk, what a statue costs?

Though the other part of me is convinced that this could have definitely been done for cheaper with better tendering, the state tendering process of we go with whoever is cheaper at the start and then if it turns out they were spoofing half way through then uh, alright lads I guess we’re stuck, is once again, not a winner here.

  22. They keep doing it and nobody is ever held accountable by the electorate…

  23. “the shelter was central to event surround the burning of Cork by the black and tans” eh clearly not
