An actress has said Meghan Markle should play herself if The Crown returns for another series.
Meg Ballamy, who played Kate Middleton in the sixth season of The Crown on Netflix, told journalist Richard Eden that only Meghan, 43, would be suitable to play her own character in the popular series that dramatises the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.
This comes after Meg played Kate in the latest series, which showed a young Princess of Wales during her university days when she first met Prince William. The entire series is a drama focused on the Royal Family, beginning with when the late Queen was crowned.
When asked about The Crown and who should play Meghan, who quit royal life with husband Prince Harry in 2020, Meg said only the former Suits star would do herself “justice” on screen.
As reported in Mail Online, Meg told Eden at the Royal Albert Hall: “Only Meghan could do Meghan Markle justice. Meghan is a great actress.”
The actress then went on to say: “Kate is awesome.”
The last series of The Crown was released in 2023, with the last episode looking at the events of 2005. A seventh series is not expected to hit screens any time soon.
The show’s creator and writer Peter Morgan told Netflix‘s Tudum in March 2024: “I’ve worked on the show every single day, including bank holidays and Christmases for ten years.”
He continued: “I’m proud of having got to the end and having done what I said I would do. “[It] became clear … that this is the perfect time and place to stop. I’m grateful to Netflix and Sony for supporting me in this decision.”
One senior royal source one revealed that the late Queen used to watch the show with her son and daughter-in-law Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie.
The source told Express.co.uk in 2017: “Edward and Sophie love The Crown.
”It has been a longstanding arrangement that they drive to Windsor at the weekend to join the Queen for an informal supper while watching TV or a film. They have a Netflix account and urged her to watch it with them. Happily, she really liked it, although obviously there were some depictions of events that she found too heavily dramatized.”
Despite this, the late Queen was said to not have been a fan of some scenes which were not accurate to real life events.
